Breastfeeding has many health benefits, and financially speaking, it helped us a lot in our financial situation especially during those early years that we’re living in a small budget – I’ve been in a business hibernate mode that time and hubby only works part-time.
How breastfeeding helped us financially?
1. We saved from formula milk expenses- my son has atopic dermatitis until he was about 18 months old, the pediatrician told us that if ever we are considering formula milk, we should get him a non-dairy formula milk which will cost us approximately Php 10,000/ month × 3 years of breastfeeding = Php 360,000 savings
2. We saved from medical expenses – because breastmilk has antibodies, most breastfed babies are healthier babies, my son, by God’s grace wasn’t hospitalized since birth.
3. We saved from feeding bottles, cleansers, energy cost by the sterilizers – because I’m directly breastfeeding, we don’t need to change bottles / nipples nor clean and sterilize bottles.
Not to mention the hassle of bringing bulky baby bags and bottles. Breastfeeding on-the-go moms like me can just grab a nursing cover whenever we go out.
Most breastfeeding pinays would agree to this tagalog phrase in breastfeeding:
“Tipid si daddy, sexy si mommy, healthy si baby”
How awesome God is, who is faithfully supplying us with free precious milk right?
Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
